Surface tension in the dilute Ising model. The Wulff construction

چکیده
We study the surface tension and the phenomenon of phase coexistence for the Ising model on Z (d > 2) with ferromagnetic but random couplings. We prove the convergence in probability (with respect to random couplings) of surface tension and analyze its large deviations : upper deviations occur at volume order while lower deviations occur at surface order. We study the asymptotics of surface tension at low temperatures and relate the quenched value τ of surface tension to maximal flows (first passage times if d = 2). For a broad class of distributions of the couplings we show that the inequality τ 6 τ – where τ is the surface tension under the averaged Gibbs measure – is strict at low temperatures. We also describe the phenomenon of phase coexistence in the dilute Ising model and discuss some of the consequences of the media randomness. All of our results hold as well for the dilute Potts and random cluster models.

Application of a constrained - transfer - matrix method to metastability in the d = 2
Applying a numerical transfer-matrix formalism, we obtain complex-valued constrained free energies for the two-dimensional square-lattice nearest-neighbor Ising ferromagnet below its critical temperature and in an external magnetic field. In particular, we study the imaginary part of the constrained free-energy branch that corresponds to the metastable phase. Although droplets are not introduce...
متن کاملNumerical transfer-matrix study of metastability in the d=2 Ising model.
We apply a generalized numerical transfer-matrix method to the two-dimensional Ising ferromagnet in a nonzero field to obtain complex constrained free energies. Below T c certain eigenstates of the transfer matrix are identified as representing a metastable phase. The imaginary parts of the metastable constrained free energies are found to agree with a field-theoretical droplet model for a wide...

We derive the Wulff construction for Kac Ising models with long but finite range interaction in dimensions d > 2. Some open problems concerning the phase coexistence for more general models are also discussed.

We apply new techniques developed in [PV1] to the study of some surface effects in the 2D Ising model. We examine in particular the pinningdepinning transition. The results are valid for all subcritical temperatures. By duality we obtained new finite size effects on the asymptotic behaviour of the two– point correlation function above the critical temperature. The key–point of the analysis is t...
متن کاملMagnetic Properties in a Spin-1 Random Transverse Ising Model on Square Lattice
In this paper we investigate the effect of a random transverse field, distributed according to a trimodal distribution, on the phase diagram and magnetic properties of a two-dimensional lattice (square with z=4), ferromagnetic Ising system consisting of magnetic atoms with spin-1. This study is done using the effectivefield theory (EFT) with correlations method. The equations are derived using...
